Throughout our short lives, as individuals and as communities, we strive to achieve, to attain, to accomplish. We pursue our dreams, our desires or follow conventions. Some want to marry and have family, others focus on career, money or property. This life is effort, a constant climb, but at the end, all things come apart. Situations change, illness strikes, death, all manner of loss are inevitable. This painting is about the cycle of effort and loss in which we find ourselves.
